Fair Debt Collection Practices Act

The FDCPA of 1973 promotes ethical business practices by debt collectors. The Act is limited in coverage, mainly to debt collection agencies, debt buyers, and collection lawyers to name a few. The Act protects consumers from the invasion of privacy, harassment, abuse, false or deceptive representation, and unfair or unconscionable collection methods. Specifically, late-night and repetitive phone calls as well as false threats of legal action.
